Hey folks-

Fred Morioka and the Rice bowl gang loaded up this morning for their second three day of the season. After topping off on beautiful sardines at the receivers, we did a seminar and Fred gave away a bunch of goodies to the folks and also raffled off a bunch of other prizes. There is really to much stuff to list; Fred brings an incredible amount of gear for the folks ranging from t-shirts and hooks to reels and rods/blanks. After the seminar we got everyone rigged up and before we hit even close to the planned area to start we got a nice surprise.

About 20 miles from port we ran over a single fish mark on the Fathometer. After bringing a boat to a stop to lower the sonar some other mark came under the boat. When the sonar was lowered all the way we saw a school was laying right next to the boat and after a few sardines went over the side, yellowfin tuna started boiling up and we hooked some fish right away. Our first stop was for a dozen nice quality fish. We picked the lines up and started taking a look around and spotted an area of shearwaters and tern birds. A small school clattered on the sonar and we stopped again. It took a while to hook the first fish but more and more fish started gathering around the boat. We hooked and landed a couple more, going dry for a few minutes. We sat for probably 10 minutes without hooking one then all hell broke loose. We kept 5-10 going for the next three hours! We ended up with 141 quality yellowfin tuna for our first afternoon out. We are going to make a move to the northwest tonight and try for Bluefin tuna in the morning. The weather has come down nice which is a nice reprieve from the last 7 days of wind we have had. Wish us luck and more biting fish! We will check in tomorrow night!
