DFG Offers Spring Outdoor Opportunities for Youth Archery

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) today announced it will offer two youth archery classes this spring for anyone at least 10 years old who wants to learn how to hit the center of a bull's eye with a bow and arrow. An adult must accompany all participants.

The classes will offer plenty of shooting time at a variety of bulls-eye targets. Instruction includes safety issues, equipment choices, understanding outdoor ethics, and the history of archery. Pre-registration is required for both events. Register online at www.dfg.ca.gov/yo or call (916) 653-7748.

The first class, Spring Fling Youth Archery Clinic, begins in April at the Maya Archery Range in Roseville. Participants will learn some of the best beginning archery skills available and have a tremendous opportunity to spend time outdoors.

When: Saturday, April 29, 2006?ĮTime: 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.?ĮCost: $10 per youth (parents and guardians are free)?ĮWhere: Maya Archery Range, 750 Galleria Blvd, Roseville

The second class, Archery in the Hills Youth Clinic, begins in June at the Nevada County Sportsmen Range in Nevada City. Participants will have the opportunity to practice fundamental field-archery skills on one of the area's most scenic archery courses .

When: Saturday, June 17, 2006?ĮTime: 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.?ĮCost: $10 per youth (parents and guardians are free)?ĮWhere: Nevada County Sportsmen Range, 11296 Banner Mountain Trail Rd, Nevada City

Both events include a barbecue lunch, and snacks are provided. All equipment will be provided. Parents and guardians may also try their hand at shooting with no charge. DFG co-sponsors the classes with the California Bowmen Hunters/State Archery Association.
