Report Date:
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is giving Bay Area lakes something anglers do not see enough of -- more fish and larger fish.
DFG will use special funding from the Sportfish Restoration Fund -- a federal excise tax on the sale of fishing tackle and motorboat fuel designed to improve fishing and boating opportunities -- to fund the planting of an increased amount of one-pound rainbow trout at many popular Bay Area fishing holes that coincides with the time of year when many urban residents have more time off from work. This stocking increase is in addition to the regular stocking these lakes receive from DFG or area park agencies.
Since 1993, DFG's Fishing in the City program has enhanced fishing near where people live and work. This has been accomplished though enhanced stocking, habitat improvement, fishing clinics and rod loaner sites in the urban San Francisco Bay Area. Fishing in the City is funded through the Sportfish Restoration Fund.
