The fishing at Santee Lakes has been very good!

TROUT:
2,000 lbs. of Rainbow Trout was split into lakes 3 and 4 this past Friday in preparation for the weekends Trout Season Re-Opener. This stock included HUGE Trophy size Trout and tagged Trout. The weather was nice and the event was well attended. The bite was a bit slow but those who hooked up were definitely rewarded.

Catch a Trout 5 lbs. or larger and qualify for the April 1st drawing for a 2 night Cabin Vacation. Over 30 tagged Trout are still swimming in the lakes waiting to be caught. Claim your prize at the Park Office.

Top 5 largest Trout contest:
Shane Hansen from Rancho Cucamonga took 1st place with an 8 lb. Trout caught on a Bline jig out of lake 3. Shane won the BMX Bike.
Tristin Harrison takes 2nd place with a 7 lb. 14 oz. caught out of lake 4 on a mini jig. Tristin wins a 2 burner camping stove.
John McFaden from Bellflower reeled in a 6 lb. 10 oz. Trout from lake 4 on garlic powerbait. John takes 3rd place and wins a fishing pole and $25.
Robert Montano and kid’s caught a 3 lb. 15 oz. Trout out of lake 4 using powerbait. The Montano’s take 4th place and win a Razor Scooter.
Jesse Brawley from El Cajon takes 5th place with a 3 lb. 5 oz. Trout caught out of lake 3 on rainbow powerbait. Jesse wins a Flambeau tackle box.

Other notables:
John Lukehart caught a 5 lb. 4 oz. Trout out of lake 4 on a nightcrawler. This fish was caught prior to this weekend and does not qualify for the top 5 contest. John will be entered into the April 1st Cabin Vacation drawing.
Nathan Manipon, age 10 from Chula Vista, caught a 3 lb. 2 oz. Trout out of lake 4 on powerbait.
Bonnie Stone caught a tagged Trout out of lake 4 on green powerbait. Bonnie won a rod and reel combo.
Issac Welton caught a 2 lb. 1 oz. Rainbow Trout out of lake 4 on green powerbait.
Emily Maldonado caught a tagged Trout and won a camping cooler.
