For those wondering about the mouth being closed here is a photo from 2-24-16. Large swells have piled the sand backing the water up but fish can still get in. Several fish were caught this morning at Johnsons Beach using Little Cleos and swinging flies. Expect to find spent fish mixed with new ones. If you are trying to avoid a spent fish for the BBQ look for these signs; if their belly looks thin, their tail or fins are torn or beat up, and if their anus is swollen from either delivering eggs or milt then they are a spent steelhead, meaning they have already been through the river and delivered their eggs or milt and have lost most of their tasty goodness. Even if they are bright it won't guarantee that they are fresh!
