Striped bass to 16 pounds showing off Prisoner’s Point on the San Joaquin River, Sounding Board, Old River Flats off Webb Tract, in from top Spindrift Marina off the San Andreas Shoals, Lower Santa Clara Shoals off the Patio, mouth of Three Mile Slough and the shoals in front of Eddo’s Harbor. Field scouts report that many have completed their spawning ritual along with some ready to go . Most of the fish are in the 5- to 7- pound range with a few larger fish in the mix. The best success coming on the troll in waters 9 to 14 feet depths with P-line predators in the purple/chartreuse color pattern with a red head. Anglers on the troll are able to cover more water to locate small schools of fish willing to hit your trolled lure. Also, bait dunkers at anchor taking their fair share of stripers on anchovies and cut sardines, but most of the fish are smaller averaging 18 to 24 inches in size along with a good number of undersized fish in the mix. Striped bass should remain in the system until the middle of June and then they begin to taper off as the bass move downstream into the salt waters of the bay.
