Fishing this week at Eagle Lake is continuing to improve despite some low fish counts on opening day May 28 reported by anglers who have for years fished on the opening.

Last weekend improved with anglers trolling Wildcat and Pelican Points who spent some time on the water. Crawler fishermen were catching fish but they had to put in their time fishing from Ronald McDonalds Camp, Eagle Nest and the Boy Scout Camp. Water surface temperature was at 65 degrees and I found some larger fish feeding on the surface early and in the afternoons. Trollers using leaded line were catching the majority of fish on three colors at 2.00 to 2.50 mph. I trolled on the surface and at times with a small trolling sinker at the same speed with a Thomas Buoyant.

Fishing should improve as time passes with the fall being the most productive.
