http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=537The weather this week has been beautiful, temperatures in the mid 90s to low 100s with little to no wind. The hot bites this week are stripe bass and catfish. We have had many anglers reporting limits on Catfish and catching anywhere from 2-5 catfish. The stripers have still been biting out towards the dam sitting in about 20-30 feet of water. Their average weight is between 4 to 6 pounds
Hi Bob:
Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale trolled the lake with Rapalas and Panther Martin Spinners going after Smallmouth Bass. The bass were caught about 15 feet below the surface in various sections of the lake, often off coastlines with onshore wind and subsurface structure. The fish ranged from 1/2 to 1.5 lbs and had plenty of fight in them. Applying scent to the trotted lures seemed to help. We lost a number of fish when they failed to stay pinned after they initially hit the lures. The Smallmouth bite is definitely improving now that the fish are past their rather sluggish post spawn period. We will be back to go after them again!
All the best,
AI Hurwitz, M.D.
