A Giant Yellowtail

"Today we spent another day sitting on the anchor at the Rocks," read the report from American Angler November 29, "and are enjoying quality tuna fishing on nice fish. Today was topped by a 123-pound fish boated by Chris Rydgren. Since we left the dock, it has been a relentless 15 to 20 knots of wind that has made it uncomfortable looking for fish on the move, but things are going well because added to the steady tuna fishing there have also been a few wahoo and yellowtail thrown into the mix.

"We have onboard a first-time saltwater angler by the name of Tom McWhorter, a policeman from New Mexico, who is an avid bass fisherman and thought he might give this tuna fishing a try. After boating an 80-pound tuna he thought he would take a breather and soak a three-foot giant squid flylined off the back of the boat. Within a few minutes he was tied into what turns out to be the biggest yellowtail we have ever seen.

"This had to be the most well-proportioned big yellow that we have ever laid eyes on and it unofficially weighed 82 pounds. With the help of Jesse Kemble and Matt Romaine theMcWhorter is displaying this beautiful specimen.

"We are going to give the Rocks one more morning and then probably will change our address and scenery."
