http://www.fishingvideos.comAppearing on Pete Gray's Let's Talk Hookup radio show December 2, Frank LoPreste, owner of the Royal Polaris, offered some interesting remarks to questions about long range fishing.
Asked how he fished temperature breaks, Frank said he checked on both sides of a break, after learning its lengthwise direction. He said he had found gamefish as much as a quarter mile on the cold side of a break, and up to two miles on the warm side. He said the location of bait could be a determining factor. LoPreste added that he sometimes found the fish right on the break itself.
A question about inexperienced anglers using Spectra backing prompted Frank to observe that not only rookies need to be careful, but experienced anglers as well.
"That stuff has a mind of its own in the water," he said, and noted that whatever their experience level, anglers have an obligation to the other fishermen to properly control their free-spooled lines, to prevent the horrendous tangles that Spectra can make. The fact that anglers paid their way aboard should enable them to fish without tangles caused by inattention or negligence.
In other words, each angler should know where his or her bait is all the time. Clueless line-feeding cuts into everyone's fishing time.
