THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE

The offshore yellowfin tuna action continues to set the pace for Cabo San Lucas anglers, with an excellent bite continuing out to the south-southwest of Cabo. The main schools of fish are running with the porpoise and mostly in the 10-20 lb. ranges and continue to be fairly eager to bite at a wide variety of whatever is moving through the water, ranging from tuna feathers in almost any color, jet heads, rapalas, etc. The billfish bite remains slow but almost none of the sportfishers are dedicating their day toward the billfish catches with the current tuna bite offering a much more active fishing day. Overall fish counts for 29 fishing days with the Gaviota Fleet & Fish Cabo boats reflected 1 striper, 7 dorado, 16 yellowtail, 66 sierra and 261 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo Climate: Sunny skies & warm days but cool in the night & early am. Temps from 56 nights to 82 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Continued streaky water areas with varied temps. Golden Gate to Gorda Banks, 67-68 and rising to 69-70 out to the southwest of Cabo, along and outside the 1,000 fathom curve.

Best fishing area: Most of the yellowfin tuna are being taken in association with the porpoise pods out to the south and southwest of Cabo, 20-40 miles.

Best Lure/Bait: Tuna feathers in all colors, rapalas, jet heads, surface iron, most anything that moved through the water was pretty effective on the school sized tuna, with 3-4 & 5-way jig strikes being common.

Live Bait Supply: Plentiful with both, mackerel & cabaillitos

THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

The excellent tuna bite continued through the early week, but slowed up from mid-week on. Billfish are few and far between and only a couple were taken for the week that included one on a super panga. Overall counts for 32 days fished in the offshore waters, reflected 2 stripers, 4 dorado, 25 skipjack tuna and 124 yellowfin tuna and 2 jack cravelle. The inshore super pangas, reporting for 12 days fished, reflected 1 striper, 7 yellowfin tuna, 16 pargo, 10 vaquetas, 10 cochitos, 1 lengua, 1 conejo and 4 barracuda.

Mazatlan Climate: Sunny days and cold nights & early mornings, with temps from 46 nights to 81 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Generally, calm waters with light breezes and swell conditions, temps at 68 inshore and rising to 70 in the offshore waters.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the boats are focused on the yellowfin tun action out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid at about 20-30 miles.

Best Bait/Lure: All of the bbillfish were taken on rigged trolling baits. The tuna mostly on feathers in assorted colors.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISH REPORT - THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

Offshore continues to be hit and miss as the blue water has moved beyond the 25 mile mark. As a real oddity our captains are reporting good numbers of 30 - 40 Lb Dorado at the 15 miles mark in the cold green water. The Sailfish activity has all but shut down since the arrival of the Cooler water temps. Hot captain for last week was Chiro on the Bloody Hook. Captain Chiro reported 11 nice Dorados in 3 offshore days. Fishing with Captain Chiro was returning angler Mr. Okonsky who landed the largest fish of the week an estimated 500 Lb Black Marlin. Inshore captain Adolofo reported very good action on Bonito, Chulas Yellowtail Jacks and an occasional small Roosterfish. The best area is north to Las Saladitas when sea conditions permit. MEGA bait lures and top water pencil poppers continue to be the most productive method of inshore fishing.

Sea Conditions Calm to Moderate, temps at 75 inshore and rising to 79 offshore at 30-plus miles.
