As I was surfing the web a couple weeks ago, I saw the Mirage was doing an Open Party trip for the Ling Cod Opener, after securing my "kitchen pass", I gave Port Hueneme Sportfishing a call. The ever pleasant Gail answered the phone and I booked my spot on this trip. I arrived at port Hueneme with great anticipation of the next days fishing. While Capt Tucker gave us our safety briefing, a couple folks got out their Sabuki Jigs and made some mackeral while we were still tied to the docks. We departed at 10pm and Capt Joe told us we were heading for one of his favorite Ling Cod haunts. We arrive at the "spot" at about 7:30 am, by 9am we had a boat limit of 46 Lings ranging from 8 to 18 pounds, it only took 4 drifts to get the limit. We then moved around to load up the bags with rock fish, the quality was fantastic with reds ranging from 5-8 lbs and the boccacio were 3-10 lbs. We ended up with limits for all and headed for home. My compliments to Capt Joe and his crew for a fantastic day of fishing and some great food. If your lucky enough to get out on the Mirage you have to try the new Kona Burger prepared by Pineapple Joe. I enjoyed sharing the rail with you all and hope to see you on one our sportfishingreport.com charters in the future. To get an Open Charter trip aboard the Mirage, give Gail a call at 805-488-2212.
