A PAIR OF DEUCES

Aha! I told you that the best fishing often comes towards the end of these trips. Today was arguably our best day yet, though the bite was still quite selective. What is undeniable is that Neil Campbell’s 220lb bait fish cow caught today is the biggest on board so far. Kent (Uncle) Fukumoto our seniorist citizen also scored a bait fish cow with a 204. The tuna that came on board today were all sizes with some a lot smaller than we’d like and other sub-cows up to 180 and truthfully, everywhere in between. It wasn’t non-stop, and it still required long hard hours at the rail, but I believe every one pulled on something today and after yesterday it was just what the Dr. ordered to get us fired up again. It was another fabulous weather day with just a bit of breeze to keep the heat manageable. The kite has been totally inactive the last couple of days so all of the fish are coming from bait often requiring excessively long soaks to produce. We are down to two more days of fishing and hopefully things will continue to improve further. We’re about to have a great tri tip dinner, retire promptly to our bunks and do it again tomorrow.

POEM OF THE DAY

The Herring would far worse of fared
If he hadn’t found someplace that cared
When a shark took his ear
He learned a career
At the school for the Herring impaired.

LONG HOT DAY Roy roused the troops around 1:30 this morning to come out and make some bait. As you would guess, we were all bright eyed and eager to get out of our comfy bunks and do our part. The good news is they came over hot, heavy, and quick. The bad news is virtually no tuna were interested in our offerings. We did get treated to many shows of boiling fish near the boat, but almost anything with a......

SMOOTH SAILING This will be a short one as we have been traveling since yesterday noon and won’t arrive at our destination until very early tomorrow morning. About the only thing I can comment on is the weather and that can be summed up in one word….. perfect! All the elements you ask for, sunny, warm, flat calm, etc. were in full force. The day was spent watching movies, telling stories and conjecturing about the fishing to come. Heavy napping was......
