Friday, 12/30/16, I made my way out the door at 8:00 AM give or take a few minutes. The outside temperature was 37 degrees. I planned to fish Shasta Lake and put-in at Jones Valley.

When I arrived at Jones Valley the air temperature was 41 and after several minutes I was OTW kayak fishing in my Hobie Outback. I was on the water for 1 1/2 hours with several hits trolling a 3/8oz. blue/silver Kastmaster for trout. With little to show for the first hour, I peddled towards the Pit Arm and put on a jig targeting bass. Only one grab on this move.

I peddled back to the Jones Valley House Boat slips. Soon, I had several pull downs with no hook-ups. It looked promising. It wasn't long before I netted a 14 1/2 in. spot. Twenty minutes later I netted a nice 16 in. rainbow. Still trolling with my Kastmaster set-up I netted 4 more bass. Sometimes you never know  what's going to happen and what's going to work.

Nice day, 1 trout and 5 spots. My rainbow which I kept was full of shad.

See you OTW.
