Report Date:
http://www.cortezcharters.comUnfortunately, the yellowfin tuna have apparently moved out of the
area as the tuna counts fell hard for the week. However, lacking the
tuna, the focus was back on the billfish and for those boats that
could get them to bite, the fishing was very good. High boat for the
week was the "Gaviota VIII", reflecting 9 stripers for 3 days
fished. All of the boats were having multiple shots at the stripers,
but getting them to bite was an all together different story.
Overall counts for 37 combined fishing days reflected 51 stripers,
(39 releases) 7 dorado, 5 yellowfin tuna and 1 mako shark.
Cabo Climate: Lots of sunshine and warmth, temps from 64 nights to
93 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Starting from Cabo and going out to the south and
around to the Sea of Cortez, the water temps are on the increase and
climb from 73 at Cabo to 77-78 outside San Jose across the Gorda
Banks and on out to the 1150 fathom spot and the Cabrillo.
Best Fishing Area: The 1150 was hottest this week but billfish were
taken throughout the area on a line from Cabo the the 1150.
Best Lure/Bait: It's that time of year, when live bait is a must.
The billfish are lethargic and not very eager to snap at anything.
Live Bait Supply: Excellent, good mackerel caballito mix
