It was another good week of bass fishing for the most part, as fish have been moving up looking to spawn. Jerk baits, senkos, drop shot, and swimbaits all took their share of largemouth. The bite should steadily improve with some consistent warm air temperatures. Panfish have yet to show up in any numbers, as only a handful of crappie were checked in at the marina last week. With only a few people targeting catfish, reports were hard to come by. It was last known that the backs of coves were holding some good numbers of 20 to 40lb. blues, with cut mackerel the bait of choice.

Bass fishing has been on the upswing this past week, as the largemouth are coming up from the depths and cruising the banks. Small swimbaits, drop shot, texas rigs, and assorted creature baits were all fished successfully. The lakes blue catfish population also went on the chew, as La Mesa angler Ryan Hulbert can attestlo. Hulbert used cut mackerel to subdue a pair of 25lbers, and a 45lb kicker, all released.......

The bass have been slowly moving up to some more reasonable depths, but are still staggered from 5’ to 40’ generally speaking. This last Sunday saw the shiner fishermen get a lot of limits, while those fishing artificials had to work much harder for their fish.
