The CDFW and BLM are hosting a Free Kid's Fishing event on March 18 at the Bass Pond located in the BLM Bend Recreation Area just northeast of Red Bluff off Bend Ferry Road via Jelly's Ferry Road.
Registration will begin just before 9:00 am when fishing will begin and end at 3:00 pm. Each angler under the age of 16 and able to hold a rod will have a great chance to experience the joy of landing a planted trout. Plenty of trout will be available for all to enjoy.
For those youngsters interested in participating who do not have fishing tackle, there will be loaner rods and reels available on a first come basis. As the catching is usually fast and furious, the wait for rods and reels are short, if at all. Bait and hooks will also be provided as only bait fishing will be allowed due to the amount of people expected. Adults are allowed to assist but cannot “fish” for the youngsters and rules will be enforced.
There will be volunteers to help teach those who have not fished before, as well as assistance in netting fish, baiting hooks and answering questions. As one of the many volunteers, I know these free kids fishing days are a great way to introduce families and youngsters to an activity that will create memories for a lifetime and skill to pass down for generations.
