Shasta Lake bassing still strong

Bass anglers are still reporting good success on a variety of baits for Shasta's spotted bass as many styles and techniques of plastics and crankbaits are being used. This is the time of year to fish confidence baits. Most  anglers are targeting bass relatively shallow working from the bank out and paralleling casts along the shore.  Minnow fishing under bobbers will also be effective for family style angling.  Using minnows in submerged brush and trees with also target crappie.

Many anglers were also turning to trout and salmon as last weekend's derby had a great turnout.  Results are not yet in but pre-fishing had a nice mix of salmon along with rainbows and browns showing. There are some real nice mix of 2 to 5 pound rainbow trout to target as these fish were released just prior to the derby from the various marina pens that they were reared in. These pen reared trout retain many wild trout characteristics, including being hard fighting as these are raised directly in the lake water in which they are released.

Shasta is just over 5 feet from full at this time.
