Anglers were eager for the first weekend of night fishing! The bite after dark was steady for catfish. They were biting on mackerel, especially Bite-on’s Mack Baits. Both buoy lines and Cloister Cove were the most productive for catfish.
Will the Catfish Record be broken this season? The record is set by Bob Bowden in 2014 with a 71.3 lbs. blue catfish caught in Sentry Cove. His bait? A plastic white frog split tail balled together with a small white grub tail onto a treble hook… not the usual tackle for catching a cat, but it worked! Be creative and see if a fish bites!
BASS
Anglers found the bass bite was best during the afternoon. Some bass are still on their beds. The favored technique is drop shot in depths of 10-15 ft.
CATCHES OF THE WEEK
Ron Chesebro, Steven Moll, and Chris Moll of Lakeside fished Saturday night and caught 4 catfish along the buoy line with mackerel. The largest weighed in at 11 lbs. for a total weight of 21 lbs.
