The weather this week has not been angler friendly at all. Temperatures this week have ranged from the high 50's to the high 60's with gusts of wind up to 25 MPH or more making it a little tougher for anglers to pull in fish. Weather predictions for this week coming up are beautiful with temperatures in the mid 80's or higher which makes for excellent fishing conditions.

Trout have slowed down this week with the heavy winds. Most anglers are catching them on either powerbait or nightcrawlers. I would also recommend using Kastmasters or smaller spinners. If you do target trout I would try fishing different coves and sandy beaches.

Stripers have started heating up with many anglers having luck fishing in the upper narrows and out at the dam. Most anglers have been catching them on either anchovies or mackerel. You might also be able to catch them on either a hair raiser or chatterbait.

Catfish are still slow with no reports of anglers catching any. We received our first catfish plant of the year on 6/7/17 we got 750 LBS. If you do target catfish look for either thulie patches or fallen trees. Best bait to use would be chicken liver, anchovies or sardines.

Our good friends Dr. Al Hurwitz and Ozdal Barkan came out this week and here is their report "Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Ozdal Barkan of Mountain View trolled the lake on 6/8/17 and hooked up with a number of Smallmouth Bass, two of decent size. Initially we were flatlining with Rapalas, hoping to catch either Rainbow Trout or Smallies, but several hours of that endeavor proved useless. However , once we switched to leaded line and spinners (Panther Martins), the Smallmouth started to hit. Caught most of the fish on the western shore opposite Swallow Bay. The bass were 15 feet below the surface in a 20-25 foot water column. Adding scent to the lures seemed to help. Water surface temperature was around 70 degrees, and the water clarity was good. The Bass seemed to be aligned with subsurface structure. For some reason the Trout bite was off, at least for trollers. Expect the Smallmouth bite to increase as the summer temperatures rise. Also anxious to see if some of the newly stocked "Lightning" RainbowTrout will be willing to bite!

All the best, Dr. Al Hurwitz"
