A Great Day's Fishing
Shawn Steward, owner of the Aloha Spirit, had a fine day of fishing June 15. Here's what he had to say:

"Here is a picture of Richard Wu of Rosemead Ca. and a 44.6-pound halibut he had to go with a three-fish limit of 20 to 30-pound seabass. He also released a 70-pound black sea bass. We had thirty-one sea bass and 2 halibut for our efforts Monday."

The Food Chain
We fished on the beach for yellows today and saw incredible signs of life. We investigated multiple bird schools that started with areas of krill-like shrimp about a half an inch long. There were sardines and mackerel breaking the surface like raindrops only to be moved off the krill by spots of yellows. Quite often by the time we would get the boat stopped it would be too late and instead of the hoped-for yellowtail, there would be a hundred yard spot of giant squid on the surface.

It made for an impressive show as this went on for miles. Even though we saw thousands of yellows with all the feed in the water, it was very hard to get a bite. One of our three father-son teams proudly get together and display a hard earned fish. George Courtney, Justin and Georgie are today's featured team.

Indy Finds Biting Tuna
"Today we tried for tuna," wrote Independence owner-skipper Paul Strasser June 17, "and were surprised at the sign, and amount of fish we caught for our offshore efforts. We had a good day by any standard in the fishing world. The weather is a key piece of this puzzle, as it is perfect out here. I'm not sure what we are going to do for tomorrow, but we just might try this again."

Intrepid Report June 17
"Today was spent catching and releasing several different species of fish, including more Black Seabass, some Yellowtail, and lots of trophy-sized Calico bass. We had exceptional fishing for Calico's today with many of the bass going over five pounds and a dozen or so pushing eight pounds. For tomorrow we are traveling to a new location in search of more big Yellowtail and a change in scenery."

Captain's Blog
"Excellent yellowtail fishing at Cedros Island today!" So said Searcher owner-skipper Art Taylor June 17 in his report. "About half of our fish are the good ones???25 to 30 pounds--and the rest are 14 to 22 pounds. Good fishing with a surface iron today and we got several fish on the yo-yo iron. Of course there were also plenty of fish caught on fly-line sardine by the people that aren't expert in casting. The weather was great with calm seas and no wind. We are headed north tonight to try our luck with catching an albacore or some sort of tuna."
