http://www.dfw.state.or.usAlthough pressure is letting up, there is still good fishing to be had on the Nestucca. There are still good numbers of broodstock hatchery fish and wild steelhead throughout the system. Float fishing jigs, beads, or bait, drift fishing, nymphing, and swinging flies or spinners are all good techniques.
Anglers are reminded that the upper Nestucca River from Moon Creek (near Blaine) to Elk Creek, closed to steelhead fishing on April 1, to protect spawning wild steelhead and out migrating juveniles.
Three Rivers is still open although the majority of the hatchery fish will be in the Nestucca this time of year. There should still be some wild fish available for catch and release, as well as a few broodstock hatchery fish.
No reports of spring Chinook yet, and we really don’t expect much to go on until near the end of the month. That said, I’m sure we will hear of the first one caught well before that.
