Hi Everyone
The giant squid are definitely here! The Patriot on a twilight trip with Capt Brian Oldmen tonight (Friday March 2) had 55-70+ giant squid to 40 pounds for 18 anglers and left them biting. Newport Landing Sportfishing will be running twilight trips nightly as long as the giant squid are here. These open party twilight trips depart at 6:30pm and return roughly around 12:00 am. These giant squid may stay for a bit or they could make a brief appearance and then disappear, so I would try to get in on the action as soon as possible. Heavy tackle is highly recommended with 40lb-60lb or heavier. For those of you that are keeping your squid, we ask that you have them at least gutted if not completely cleaned (the charge for gutting is very nominal about $1 each, for complete cleaning a little more). Squid ink will stain sidewalks and everything else that it comes in contact with and makes us unpopular with the area residents and shop owners.
