The East was running at about 212 cfs most of the week but is now running at 232. The fishing has been tough down there mainly due to the warmer weather we’ve been having, however, during some of the slight thunderstorms we’ve been having there has been some very good blocks of time down there where the fish were very active. The best time to fish right now is earlier in the morning (from about 6 am or so to about 11 am) and later in the evening (from about 5 or 6 pm to 9 pm or so). The mid-day section is better left alone right now. It’s still mainly nymphing with caddis nymphs and small midge patterns though there has been some sproradic good evenings with drys. The river has been getting a pretty good amount of pressure lately so you’ll really need to be on your game with good drifts and good patterns to fool these fish. We haven’t heard any news on streamers this past week though we do keep hearing reports of lots of crawdads in both the river and Bridgeport Reservoir, might be worth a try to run some crawdad patterns down deep.
Recommended Flies:
Buckskin caddis, Fox’s poopah, LaFontaine’s deep sparkle pupa, 3 wire caddis, rainbow warrior, san juan worm, flashback emerger, squirmy wormy, WD-40, disco midge, top secret midge, radiation baetis.
