My cousins and I went up to New Melones for a day of fun fishing, and we had fun. We started the day shallow throwing dart head worms and topwater spooks with several smaller fish on the worm, and came up empty handed in the topwater. Mid morning we backed out a little deeper on the main lake and slowed down with jigs and dartheads again, finding some really nice fish up to 5 lbs. We ended up catching a ton of fish, with our best five going around 18 lbs. Slowing down with the plastics and moving out deeper was the key for us.
