The water temperature has been hovering in the lower 70s making it the perfect temperature to fish for the striped bass. They've been boiling out by the dam and in heron bay, but you need to get out there early in the morning, with the top water action usually dying out about 8:00 to 8:30AM. The striped bass are keyed in on the shad, so you want to try to imitate them with shad colored rubber baits or working a Kastmaster on the top of the water. They will pretty much ignore any other type of lure. If bait fishing is more your speed casting anchovies from close to shore, towards the center of the cannel is going to be your best bet for a striper. The catfish have been coming alive, eating mostly on anchovies and chicken liver. A good bet is sitting bait near the tulle patches or weed mats where they like to hang out. Move along if you aren't getting bites within an hour. The pan fish have been hitting on red worms with a small size 8 hook. Just let the worm drop and jig it every few seconds. If the bluegill doesn't hit quickly then it's time to recast. They are aggressive! The trout are still invisible. It's definitely a hard time for trout fisherman at Del Valle. Although, the small and largemouth bass are going insane. The trollers slamming them on panther martins or rooster tails, trolling about 2-2.5 miles per hour in about 30 feet of water, about 15 feet down. Also, if you are someone who likes to go find them, drop shotting a trusty Senko on the rockwalls has had phenomenal results. if you don't have the tackle for drop shotting, the old reliable Texas rig in the heavy weeds produces as well. The 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz Kastmasters are also pretty safe bet if you work them on the bottom.
