Try nymphs at Baum Lake

I visited Baum Lake last Saturday afternoon, spinning rod in hand looking to duplicate my most recent trips where I had caught and released up to 27 trout in under 2 hours time. Well, with most of my fishing tackle, ie. fly rods, reels and flies still in storage from my recent move, all I was able to do was watch as fly anglers using a variety of small ( six 16-18) nymphs were having a field day. It was Mid -afternoon, high sky, no wind and no interest at all in spoons or spinners, in fact, in the hour and a half I was there, I witnessed only one trout landed on a lure. But, had I a fly rod in my arsenal I could have easily joined in on the catch fest.

It had been reported that another large stock of trout of rainbows, five to six thousand pounds worth, was placed in the lake last week to complement the large quantity of browns also recently planted in the lake.  Most of the fly anglers were landing rainbows while I was there and plenty of trout could be seen cruising the shoreline. I can't wait to get my stuff out of storage and get up there fly rod and a selection of small nymphs in hand.
