Owens River Gorge Fishing Report

The Trout Fitter Staff

Report Date:

Water conditions:
Water Temps: Mid 60's
Flow: 45 CFS. This is a permanent flow required to be maintained by LADWP
The air temps feel like 100-110 degrees. I would fish from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM in the morning. Fish from 6:00 to dark in the evening. Avoid anytime in between. The over growth around the river is bad with nettles and weeds.

Fishing Conditions and Hatches:
The fish has been good but don't stay to long. Caddis and Midges have been the main stay for the fish in the Gorge.
Make sure to bring water, a light zip-off pants, a light weight shirt, wading staff (for hiking and snakes) and get out by 9:30 AM.

Recommended Flies:
Dries-
Elk Hair Caddis #14-18, Parachute Caddis #14-18, Parachute Hopper #12-14, Royal Wulff #14-16 and Parachute Adams #14-20
Nymphs-
Pheasant Tails #16-18, Sparkle Caddis #18, Tiger Midge #18-20, Micro Stone #16-18 and Copper John #18-20

Guides Hint:
Bring your 2 each of your favorite flies and a few bottles of=2 0water. Make everything simple for the Gorge. That's the beauty of the Gorge, Simplicity!
