Norman put the Shogun into a lucky drift last night, because at sunrise we had a kelp within 300 yards. The action was quick, with eager tuna and dorado snapping at the baits. The fish stayed with the boat as we drifted away from the kelp, and after the bite slowed down another pass resulted in a few more fish and then it was off in search of another. Today the majority of the fish were associated with kelps. A few blind strikes on albacore, but no dolphin tuna combo today. We finished up the day on a positive note, a last kelp at sundown for another handful of yellowfin. A 36# tuna took big fish honors. Tuesday the Shogun departs on a 5 day trip, shifting gears again to fish more distant waters.
