LATEST NEWS from the Department of Fish and Game is there will be 2 public meetings regarding the hatchery and stocking program, Monday September 8th from 4 to 6:30pm in Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, Main Hall at 828 "I" Street, Sacramento, and Thursday September 11 from 5:30to 7:30pm at the Carson Community Center (Adult Activity Room) 3 Civic Plaza Drive, Carson. The meetings will allow for public input as DFG and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service develop a joint Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) to assess the potential effects of fish stocking on the state's aquatic resources and natural environment. They invite all interested parties to attend one or both of the open-house style meetings to learn more about the EIR/EIS and possible future changes to the hatcheries and fish stocking program. Public input gathered at the meetings will be considered when preparing the alternatives and analysis for the EIR/EIS.

For more information about these meetings, or to view the notice of Intent/Preparation or the Initial Study, please visit www.dfg.ca.gov and select the "Public Notices" icon in the "News" column. It is a 44 page document. That's all I'm saying!

Another great week of weather after the two days of brutal winds . Fishing was slow mid-week but quickly picked up with only a couple Alpers taken on the occasional Berkeley Gulp power bait and power worms. Temperatures returned to the high 70's with 7am temperature around the 46 to 48 mark.

BIG FISH: Pat Carroll of Santa Barbara took a 5lb 10oz Alpers on a power worm on the 2nd, and Joe Faruzzi of Newbury Park caught a 2 lb 13oz on a wooly bugger on the 5th. Approximately 7pm Troy Tucker of LA pulled in a 3lb 14oz on a gold Kastmaster, nice fish Troy.

Float tubers hit the lakes early Saturday and the water was calm for an hour or so until the sun hit the water and things started to happen. Wooly buggers were tugged to the limit, and a lot of dries hit the air. Caddis, sedge (the smallest black version), up to the largest lace wing, which is simply the most beautiful bug the big "Boy" ever created.

Top flies were Gray Hackle Peacock, rust wooly bugger, olive/black buggers, and small midges, oh yes, the inimitable midge (Griffith's, Adams, Martinez, Grizzly King), and the black trico spinner.

Lures were not on the top of the list, but Berkeley Power Bait, garlic and plain chartreuse behind red power eggs (any brand) all did well. Salmon eggs are still bringing in limits along with some artificial crickets.

Keep those rods bent?Ķ.carolyn

The week ended with heavy winds and the promise of snow Sunday night at the higher elevations, which is yet to be seen. The week was very warm with temps hitting in the low to mid 80's at 9727 foot elevation and 85 to 88 at Conway summit. Salmon Peach power bait is still holding the number one spot over night crawlers by 2 lengths, and lures on the far turn as a quick 3rd. Alpers put in his famous fish last week and only 2......

It's into the top of the 7th and the score is tied for the season. Looks like another winner for the Eastern Sierra as far as weather goes, with some high clouding in the morning, but clears by early afternoon making it a great week for those waiting to head back to reality for the winter. Had a 2 day cooling after some good winds early this week, but it has returned to sleeveless tops and shorts, for......
