Lake Oroville Report 03-15-2007

Steve Carson

Report Date:

Bass anglers on Lake Oroville struggled to find fish that wanted to bite over the weekend, according to Jim Spradlin at Oroville Outdoors. "There's not a whole lot going on", reported Spradlin. "The surface temperature shot up like a rocket, so the fish are suspended and staging to spawn.
"The few fish that are being caught are all on jigs or four to six-inch worms and tubes, there's no reaction bite at all. No large bass have been caught either, it's pretty much all slot-size fish.
"The coho salmon are going deeper, down around the 40-foot level. Most are running in the 13 to 16-inch range, and are hitting on live minnows and the trolled Koke-a-Nut/Slingblade combination. Best area for cohos has been the main body near the bridges and up the middle fork."

Trout fishing continued to be good with a few adjustments being made by anglers to accommodate the very clear water rushing into the lake. The heavy flow at the pipe in Sierra Cove has resulted in at least 90-percent of the......
