http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=537The lake temperature has been in the upper 70s and has surpassed 80 on a few occasions. These high temperatures are causing the shad to spawn, so we are seeing a lot of shad activity in the early morning. And where you find shad, you’ll likely to find striped bass!
The sunfish bite has really picked up at the water temperature increases. We recommend casting some red worms or mini-crawlers. You can find the bluegill and crappie around the weed mats near the shores or near the cattails as they are using these structures for spawning.
TROUT
Trout can be caught either using corn yellow Powerbait or spring green Powerbait. We recommend fishing for trout form the south end of the lake or from the Hetch Hetchy group campsite.
CATFISH
The catfish bite is on! They are biting mostly on mackerel or chicken livers. Look for the catfish around fallen trees in the water. Stink bait has been working well for these fish that rely on smell to sense food. If you are fishing from shore, we recommend either the east or west beach areas. Some larger fish have been caught along the dog run trail.
BASS
Largemouth and smallmouth bass are getting caught on nightcrawlers. They are spawning in and around the cattails or fallen trees in the water. We recommend fishing rocky points and trees in the water. Badger Cove or the south end of the lake are our recommended places to fish.
STRIPED BASS
The striped bass fishing is finally coming back to life as the water temperatures heat up. We expect to start seeing striper boils all over the lake in the coming weeks. For now, the main way to hook into them is using anchovies or sardines.
I invite everyone to come out here and enjoy themselves this summer. The fishing is really coming alive right now! – Captain Jacob
