Rio Vista Bass Derby Results
The 72nd annual Rio vista Bass Derby & Festival concluded on a high note last Sunday October 13. The three-day event had 338 adults and 52 young fishing anglers participating during perfect weather conditions this year. This year a log of fish were caught with a full leader board to eight places in each division. In the striped bass division the target length was 30 inches. Here for your information is a list of the winners along with prize winnings: Steve Cruz won first place in the adult striped bass division by catching a 29.75 inch striped bass and he won $3,000.00 for his efforts. Carlton King placed second in the striper division with a 29.65 inch striper worth $1,500 and Jason Tenorio placed third with a 29.52 inch striper worth $1,000.
Charles Leon won $1,000 for taking first place in the sturgeon fishing division, catching a 53.17-inch diamondback, which was closest to the 54-inch target length. He took home $1,000 for his efforts. Tim Matthews placed second in the sturgeon category measuring 52.95 inches in length. This fish was worth $500. Jason Gargill won third place in the sturgeon division with a 51.69-incher worth $250. Overall, the striped bass fishing during the event was pretty solid along with some very good salmon and sturgeon fishing. Most of the stripers were caught in Montezuma Slough; sturgeon at Power Lines on the Sacramento River and the majority of the salmon came from the Rio Vista Bridge up to the Real McCoy ferry. In the salmon fishing division, which did have a target, length Ken Baccetti won first place with a 22.8-pound caught while trolling. Ken took home $1,000 for his efforts. The 4th through eighth place winners all won fishing gear donated by Sportsman’s Warehouse in Stockton. Feather River
The salmon fishing is in high gear on the Feather River, especially at the Thermalito After Bay section of the river where anglers are using spinners and F-14 Flatfish in the chartruse and silver color patter doing best.
San Francisco Bay
The beat goes on with continued good catches of halibut and striped bass. The striped bass are still holding off the rock piles while the halibut are being caught on the Berkeley Flats, Angel Island, and Alameda Rockwall drifting live anchovies.
Outside the Gate In the salt waters of the Pacific Ocean anglers continued to produce quality limits of rockfish along with some good-sized lingcod. Some salmon making an appearance of the Marin coastline and along Muir Beach Note; the Dungeness crab pot pulling season begins on Saturday, November 2.
Northern California Lakes
Most of California lakes are now in the trout mode with plants taking place of a regular basis. Don Pedro and Melones Reservoir are still producing quality kokanee salmon and rainbow trout. Recent trout plants taking place at Pardee Lake is the liking of the shoreline anglers who are taking limits daily.
