The inshore super panga fishing continues to be limit catches on
Sierra, fishing in close to the shore line and an increase in toro in
the near offshore waters. The offshore fishing is fairly diverse,
providing a mix of billfish. Overall catches for 28 combined fishing
days offshore reflected 2 blue marlin, (under 300 lbs.) 3 stripers,
13 sailfish, 7 dorado, 2 yellowfin tuna, 1 mako shark and 7 toro,
(jack cravelle). The inshore catches reflected for 6 fishing days
was limits on sierra, (numerous releases) 9 pargo, 8 cochitos and 32
toro, (jack cravelle).
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days but very good weather overall,
with temps that varied from 57 nights to 85 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: 78 degrees inshore and rising to 81 offshore.
Mostly calm waters, light swell activity and good clarity.
Best Fishing Area: The offshore fishing is still pretty much to the
west to southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 20 miles
and on out to 30 miles.
Best Bait/Lure: The billfish were mostly taken on the rigged mullet
trolling baits.
