Unfortunately, the water temperatures throughout the Mazatlan region
are starting their annual decline and the offshore fishing has been
affected. This is a normal phase for Mazatlan at this time of year
and normally, the sailfish and dorado move to new locations and the
stripers move in, along with more mako sharks and yellowfin tuna. It
take a week or so for the fish to settle and adjust to the changes.
The offshore catches for 28 fishing days reflected 2 stripers, 4
sailfish, 3 mako sharks, 1 yellowfin tuna and 6 dorado. The inshore
super pangas, reporting for 7 fishing days, reflected another week of
limit fishing for the sierra for those that wanted to stock-up on the
best ingredient for ceviche, 34 pargo, 3 jack cravelle, 1 barracuda,
55 cochitos and 35 cabrillas.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days with temps from 55
nights to 83 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Calm waters, light surface breezes, temps from 69
inshore and slowly rising to 72-73 offshore.
Best Fishing Area: The boats are searching wide areas for the fish
as there is no specific central location at this time.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged trolling baits worked best for the billfish.

While the billfish bonanza has slowed up just a little, the overall averages are still holding at 3 billfish per boat day fished and the better skippers and anglers are doing much better. The skipper of the "Gaviota VIII", Captain Juan Dominguez, was again the high liner for the week, producing 18 stripers released for two fishing days.
