The Metolius River has been fishing good lately. This time of the year, the river gets more UV, which spurs a whole bunch of bug activity, which in turn gets the fish-eating. We like to fish multiple nymph rigs down there nowadays. Favorites are Deep Pupae October caddis, Jimmy Legs and Stonefly nymphs with smaller caddis pupae or red Copper John #18 behind. Smaller mayfly nymphs and midge patterns will still work too. Dry fly fishing can still happen from time to time, but we’re not seeing anything consistent developing. Always have some small Stimulators and PMD dries on the off chance you start to see heads.
