It would appear that the cooler water currents are having an affect
on the striper action and the overall catch numbers reflect
considerable change. On the other hand, it has also moved the boats
in to searching farther and wider for other catches and will mean the
crews will have to work much harder to make their catches and
customers happy. Overall combined catches for a total of 65 days
fished reflected 53 stripers, (47 released) 104 dorado, 29 yellowfin
tuna, 1 wahoo, 1 mako shark, 2 pargo, 6 roosterfish and 66 sierra.
Hi boats for the week were "Gaviotta IV", skippered by Captain
Octavio Castillo and "Gaviota V", skippered by Captain Victor Cota,
both reflected 10 stripers each for 6 days fished.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny with scattered clouds each day and temps
from 60 nights to 82 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: From the Golden Gate to the Gorda Banks, temps at
73-74. Rising to 75-76 at the Cabrillo Sea mount.
Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate continues to be the best for the
stripers, but we noted that a few are being caught in scattered areas
from the Golden Gate to Gorda Banks areas.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait best for the stripers at the Golden Gate
and the mackerel are the preferred bait.
Live Bait supply: Remains good and can still be replenished at the
Golden Gate Bank but one has to work much harder at it.
