Lake Almanor Fish Report

Steve Carson

Report Date:

The snow hit Lake Almanor hard for the past week, reported Doug Neal at Almanor Fishing Adventures. The Canyon Dam public boat ramp is in good shape and the road has been plowed, but is still slick with packed snow on the surface. With all the weather, few anglers were out on Almanor this week. A few people were bank fishing at Hamilton Branch and Big Springs with nightcrawlers.

A large bear swam out and raided the floating fish cages operated by the Almanor Fishing Association. This released about 9000 Eagle Lake-strain rainbow trout in the eight to nine-inch class into the lake, a few months earlier than normal. The remaining 40,000 Eagle Lake rainbows are looking good. The bear was trapped and relocated unharmed, about 60 miles northeast of Susanville.
