Hunting, fishing and wildfire danger

Get the latest updates on access, closures, impacts

With the extreme season in Oregon, hunters and anglers should check ahead about possible closures, restrictions and cancellations. We are updating access conditions as we can in the Recreation Report. However, conditions can change quickly, and in between updates.

To help you find the latest information regarding public access, closures and other wildfire-related issues, we’ve created this webpage on MyODFW.com. Here you’ll find the latest ODFW closures and cancellations, as well as links to land management agencies and their current notices.

Youth pheasant hunts cancelled

No hunts this weekend at Sauvie Island and Denman wildlife areas

To due hazardous smoke conditions, and uncertainty about the weekend outlook, all youth pheasant hunts scheduled for Sept. 19-20 at these two wildlife areas have been cancelled. Find the latest updates and cancellations. Check this page often for further cancellations.

Best bets for weekend fishing

Assuming the skies clear and immediate fire dangers subside, there could be some good fishing this weekend. Search out sections of the Rec Report for signs of:

  • Fair Chinook fishing in the bays and estuaries off the coast.
  • Some fall trout stocking, including trophy fish in some waters of the NW Zone.
  • Improved fishing for holdover trout. Cooler air and water temperatures will put any trout remaining from earlier stockings on the bite.
  • Ocean conditions good for bottomfish and halibut fishing.
  • Finally, if air and fire conditions DON’T improve for the weekend, your best bet may be to postpone your fishing trip until conditions improve.

Clamming, and some crabbing, remains closed to nonresidents

Clamming and mussel harvest remain closed to nonresidents along the entire Oregon coast. Crabbing is open to nonresidents from Cape Falcon (between Seaside and Tillamook) south to the CA border.
