THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

There was a little upturn in the fishing this past week but still, it seems pretty tame when compared to just a couple weeks ago. On the other-hand, for this time of year, and for that area, we'll take it and be happy with it. While the boats continue to search far and wide for some concentration, it's the time of year when the billfish tend to round the corner and head into the Sea of Cortez and most of the billfish being caught now are on the move and for the most part, in the no-bite mode. The overall counts for a total of 45 days fished reflected 8 stripers released, 22 yellowfin tuna, 2 yellowtail, 13 sierra, 2 roosterfish and 6 calamari, (the big guys, those 25-pounders).

Cabo Climate: Sunny & warm days, light northwest winds at 7 knots, temps at 64 nights to 87 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Cooler waters on the Pacific side, down to 67-68 from Golden Gate Bank to Cabo Falso and out to about 25 miles, increasing to 73-74 beyond. From Cabo into the Cortez is 71 to 73.

Best Fishing Area: Scattered billfish throughout the area, no concentration. Dorado all on the Cortez side.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was the preferred choice with a fish here and there being taken on artificials.

Live Bait Supply: Continues to be a good supply, mostly caballitos.
