My son John and I got to Bullard’s Bar around 7:15 am. My dad arrived shortly after, around 7:30. We quickly got the boat loaded and launched. We started heading up the lake to our first stop, which took about 5 mins. We pulled up on a red clay point with rocks and stumps on it. Immediately we started marking fish. I began by throwing a shakey head on my Dobyns FR 702 SF. After about 20 mins with no action, we decided to make the move up the lake.

After our second stop without catching a fish, we pulled up on a bluff shoreline that contained spotty chunks of rock, stumps with a slightly sandy bottom. I picked up a nail weighted senko and pitched it out to a downed tree in the water. As my senkos was falling, I felt that tick on the line, so I reeled down to set the hook on my first fish of the day. It was a small spotted bass. As I was fighting mine, my dad also hooked up on another little spotted bass. He was throwing a drop shot with a 3-inch live shad roboworm.

We continued fishing through the day, circling the areas where we began catching fish in the morning. Just bouncing around. All of the fish we were find were in 10-45 feet of water. Primarily on red clay points and bluff shorelines with large rocks and stumps. We ended our day catching about 20 fish. None over 1 – 1.25 pounds. No matter the size, it was a ton of fun getting out with my son John and my dad Vern. The baits and rigs we caught our fish on were simple but effective. We used Dropshots, Shakey heads, and nail weighted senkos. One of these days, I will hook one of those Bullard’s Bar giants.

Till next time good luck and tight lines.
