Crushing on the Crooked

The Crooked is still low and slow, fishing is consistent but hopefully those fish see some more water at the end of the month. This weekend's weather looks great with mild temperatures and some cloud cover, perfect for Blue Wings. I would expect a few midges in the morning until the temperature peaks and the mayflies come out. Skwala are crawling out of the water and onto the nearby banks and grass, we love fishing little stoneflies nymphs during this migration as the bugs are often swept into the current on their way from the depths.

Looking into the future the march brown mayflies should be showing up along with some early season PMD’s and small black caddis. Let’s all just hope that when irrigation season starts the river will bump enough to give those fish a little relief.

Suggested Dries: Parachute PMD #14-18, Tilt Wing PMD #16-18, Purple Haze #18-20, Hackle Stacker PMD and BWO #14-20, Extended body BWO #18-20,  X-Stimulator #10-14, X-Caddis Tan #18, PMD Sparkle Dun #16-20, CDC Thorax PMD #18-20.

Nymphs: Bead Head Hares Ear #16-20, Pheasant Tail #16-20, Anato-May Olive #16-20, Bubble Back Emerger PMD #16-20, JuJu Baetis Black or Purple #18-22, Hogans Spring Creek Geek #16-20, Rainbow Warrior Black #18-20, Zebra Midge #16-22.
