Only a single report from the Puerto Morelos area this week,
forwarded by Angler Tony DeCicco, fishing aboard the 31' Uniflite,
"Aries VI", and I have pasted his report below:
Just a quick note to tell you about the trip.
Not exactly the red-hot fishing that we had experienced the last
three years, but everyone tried real hard. Guess that is why it is
called fishing and not catching. We only saw one or two boats out
there so that could account for the slow fishing as well. The
economy down there is really taking it on the chin and the local
people are going to be hurting pretty badly unless things pick up.
Hooked in to a HUGE dorado that had to have gone at least 50
pounds, possibly 60 that jumped a little and then stayed down.
Brought him to the gaff a couple times and then when the mate
attempted to leader and gaff him, the leader broke at the swivel so
he lived to fight another day!!!!!
We ran inside and bottom fished for an hour or so and landed 3 nice
sized red snappers (8-14 pounds or so) since the troll just wasn't
producing.
We ended up going back on the troll for the last couple hours and
got a nice blackfin tuna of about 15-20 pounds that the restaurant
at our hotel turned in to some very tasty sashimi.
Couldn't have asked for better weather. Captain Hector did a great
job as did Micheal and the additional mate, Thomas.
