Lake Camanche fishing report
5/7 – 5/8
Water temp 72
Visibility 2-7 ft
RB Bass team members Danny Sozzi, Danny Cross and Son Cayden Cross fished Camanche 2 days this weekend for the Anglers Press event.
Team of Sozzi and Cross took 4th with 12.85 lbs
Cayden took 2nd in the youth division with 10.80 lbs
We started out our prefish day with throwing topwater for the morning bite, had a few blow ups fishing the River2sea whopper plopper but were unable to connect with them. Once the sun came up we covered alot of water trying to locate some bed fish and find any reaction bite. We had a few followers with the swimbaits but again unable to connect. Mid day we really put our heads down to find some bed fish, we ran alot of shoreline and island tops with no luck. But then we found ONE island with quite a few beds and fish cruising up shallow. Again, no reaction bite. Cayden was putting on a clinic and putting us to shame finesse fishing off the back of the boat behind us.
Tournament day we decided to hit the island where we were seeing and catching the majority of our fish the day prior and really pick it apart. Due to some unforseen circumstances, blast off was delayed until nearly 8am. The topwater bite was gone for us by this time, so we decided to just work this island ALL day. We fished the deeper edges (7-15 ft) for most of our bites coming on dropshot, jigs and shakey heads. The big fish we weighed that was good for 2nd big fish of the event (3.80) was caught by Danny Cross blind casting (due to the high winds she couldn’t be seen) to where we had marked her on a bed the day prior. The fishing was very slow! Only 6 fish were boated for the team of Sozzi and Cross and only 5 for Cayden. The fish were definitely in that post spawn funk. Our recommendations if heading out soon, fish SLOW and small. And also be VERY cautious, there is a lot of unmarked hazards with the low water conditions.
