It seems like the bulk of the dorado in the Sea of Cortez has taken up residence at Mazatlan, as the daily fast-action continues to provide easy fish limits for those that access the shark buoys. While there are some sailfish for the offshore cruisers, most of the anglers are opting for the dorado fishing or perhaps splitting the trip into a try for the billfish and if nothing happens for a while, then reverting to the buoys for the dorado action. The offshore cruisers reflected 5 sailfish and limits of dorado for five offshore fishing days. The inshore boats, including cruisers and super pangas, reflected mostly limit fishing for dorado and numerous releases on light tackle.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps from 76 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Stable water temps that held inshore & offshore at 80-81 degrees, with very light swells and light tropical surface breezes.

Best Fishing Area: At the shark buoys for the dorado and outside to the southwest of the Marina El Cid for the billfish.

Best Bait/lure: Rigged baits for the sailfish produced all 5 sailfish reported. The dorado were again eager to bite most things that moved through the water and live bait was certainly a hot item, along with strip bait, cut bait, surface iron and pencil poppers.
