http://www.lakesabrinaboatlanding.comOh what beautiful mornings we've had - a bit of thunder-boomers and showers in the afternoons accompanied by that terrible 4-letter word - w-i-n-d, but that usually has cleared out by late afternoon - making for some awesome cool evenings - no hint of the autumn-crisp air, but it will be here before you know it.
This week, fishing was tough - no other way to put it. One day was good, the next not so good and the following day - never-mind and then we'd start all over again! Fishing the inlets with Orange PowerBait was working the best. Even the always-effective pulling of flashers and a worm was a tough go. Drifting NightCrawlers or PowerBaits had its times. Shore fishing kinda worked when using NightCrawlers, Salmon Eggs or PowerBait. We think the fish are down deeper due to the warm temperatures - trout like that cool water. The Borst Family - Jim, Wendi, Wyatt (6) & Jacob (1-1/2) had a nice day on the lake with family and friends catching quite a few fish - it's my understanding the boys - Wyatt and Jacob out-fished mom and dad. Good job, Boys! The DFG stocked the lake Friday with pan-size fish.
The lake is still spilling, but just barely, due to the slowing of the run-off and not as much rain. Yup, looks like we're drying out a bit. Less of a chance for those afternoon thunder-bumpers, but looks like breezy weather for the next couple of days. Highs in the high 70s and lows in low 50s - beautiful weather.
Rick and I took a drive over to South Lake - the lake is BEAUTIFUL - AND - FULL - AND SPILLING. YEAH! ! ! What a sight - almost as beautiful as Lake Sabrina, but not quite - J. Drove up the dirt road, north of Intake II to see how low the fire came there and, lo and behold, we came across 4 deer - one of which posed ever so nicely for Rick. We do the touristy things in the canyon on our day off.
The only new blossoms I discovered in Rick's Garden this week were ElderBerrys. A very good berry to pick to make ElderBerry Liquer - hmmm! We've heard rumors - that's rumors - that there are 6 bears in the canyon. We've only had one that one time and haven't seen it again - yet, but play it safe and practice the "Forestry Bear Food Rules - Keep-it-out-of-Reach".
The SKEETERS are still around the shore of the lake and in the back country - Rick calls them our 'Back-Country Protectors'. Their bite will even go through your jeans. OUCH! Try this website for a pretty good weather guess for the Bishop Creek Canyon area, www.weather.gov, enter ASPENDELL, CALIFORNIA, in the search area and that will give you information about the weather in the small community you pass just before getting to Lake Sabrina.
* * * NEWS FLASH * * * Verizon has removed the payphone out in front of Lake Sabrina Boat Landing. Cardinal Village will be your closest option as not very many cell phone providers work in the area; Bishop Creek Lodge, Parchers Resort and Creekside RV Park are your other choices
With the return of warmer weather the skeeters have returned, so remember the bug juice and COMMIT TO MEMORY, IF YOU PUT ON BUG JUICE, SUN SCREEN OR FOO FOO JUICE, WASH YOUR HANDS! THEN RUB THEM IN WORM GOO, TROUT ATTRACTANT OR POWERBAIT - GET THE OTHER SCENT OFF!
Also, don't forget your sunscreen and dark glasses, the glare on the water is soooo bright, they just might blind your eyeballs. PONCHOS or COATS MAY ALSO BE NEEDED - YOU NEVER KNOW!
ALWAYS PACK A JACKET! ! ! !
You all have a great week and if the stress gets too great, you all know where to come to get some relief! But, remember you don't need to be stressed to come. WE JUST WANT TO SEE YOU SOON!
