Conditions have changed dramatically in the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area
as the river mouths are over-flowing from the rains and making for
wide areas of dirty water that has hampered the inshore fish bite and
brought it to a near stand-still. According to Captain Temo
Verboonen, the offshore fishing is still producing, but it has moved
farther offshore, too, starting at about 20 miles. There is a
distinct edge to the clarity of the water that tends to parallel the
1000 fathom curve. As in the past few weeks, not very many anglers
are fishing this area right now.
IZ Climate: Mostly cloudy, some rain and scattered thunderstorms
with temps from 73 nights to 92 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Although the sea temps are stable at 83 inshore to
86 offshore, the water clarity is very poor inshore and doesn't clean
up until the 20 miles mark.
Best Fishing area: Almost no action at all until the 20 miles mark.
Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits were best for the sailfish in the
offshore waters.
