I may sound like a broken record when I keep saying that fishing/catching are both doing great. Yes, it has been great. I've seen some great trout swimming around during my evening jaunts on Little Virginia this past week, and there are still some hold-over Alpers and appear to be taking up residency.

Fall colors are just starting and most of the trees have some yellow, but it will be around the 25th when they fully change and start their darker shades going into autumn. Huntington season starts on the 19th and will run for 3 weeks, so leave your antlers at home.

Today we had thunderstorms, lightning, hail and several hours of rain. It cleared out the parking lot and sent the anglers racing for shelter and only the trout-driven anglers stayed to brave the marble-size hail.

Fishing, rather catching will most likely take a dive for a day or so now that the rain has washed every living thing into the lakes, but that could change if we get a rapid rise in temperature in the next few days, but the report is for more t-storms on Tuesday.

Fickle trout are also on the menu as far as bait, chunky cheese and rainbow glitter took over the number one spot, with baby night crawlers holding second. Some lures were working for a few days but gave way to bait. Flies were mainly terrestrials, ants, small hoppers and streamers on the bottom. Sow bugs, ginger caddis patterns, white moths and very small midges were getting more attention than they deserved. You may not get this report on time, as my web-site Director (Mike) is up here for a week....see you on the water....carolyn

Smoke, smoke and just more smoke has plagued the Eastern Sierra sky-line for the past week lessening the visual beauty of the scenic corridor. But the good news is that Alpers were planted last Monday, and DFG came up with 500lbs of  ? to 1 pound trout for the holiday anglers. What! Where were the anglers, definitely not here, most likely staying close to home in case fires kicked up around their area. The first day of clear skies was Saturday and hopefully some of the fires......

What will Mother Nature send out way in the next few days? Whatever it is hopefully it will include more of the same without the smoke from the fires over the mountain. Visibility has decreased in the last 24 hours, but it clears up at this elevation overnight into the early morning. Hopefully these fires will be under control in the near future. Biggies for the week were caught by Matt Ross of Orange with a 3lb 2oz Alpers on a fly, Todd......
