Lake Shasta Fishing Report
Lake Shasta is slowly rising with the warmer weather and the snow melting. The water is very dirty up the rivers with 1-3 ft of visibility, There is clearer water near the dam.
The Mc cloud has been the dirtiest arm in the lake.
Water Temps are 48-50 deg on most of the lake but can be cooler as low as 44 deg up the forks.
Fishing has been off and on from day to day, one day there is a good reaction bite and another day its just not there.
For me the reaction bite has been on Crankbaits, Spinner Baits and the Frenzy Baits A-Rig. Fish have been on Flat points keeping the boat in 15 ft of water has been the key, the bites have been in 7-10 ft range when you find them. There has also been a bluff wall bite typical of winter. Jigs, and Shakey heads such as the Frenzy Nail and EWG Dart Heads have been getting bites. Darker colors have been working best. The key has been to drag the bait really slow, not much shaking or hoping is needed. There has also been a good Jig Bite, brown or brown and purple TNT Jigs M-80 series in 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz has been getting bites. The jig bites have been from 10-35ft but as deep as 55ft.
Fish Slow , the fish have been pressured, moving around alot is key to locating the fish and getting bites!
Good Luck-Ron Howe
