Winter steelhead are currently returning to the Hood River basin. Numbers of steelhead in the Hood River will continue to increase through late winter, with winter steelhead returns generally peaking in mid-March. Use of bait is allowed on the Hood River when fishing for salmon or steelhead. Three hatchery steelhead may be harvested daily.
Winter flows on the Hood River are dynamic, with rain on snow events contributing to fluctuations in flow. High flow events in winter can limit fishing opportunities.
